Day 3: TeamUP in Punjab Summer 2017

Our team members got the chance to spend a night with their families. Jaipaul is visiting Punjab for the first time, and he got to reconnect with his roots by visiting his ancestral house. We were scheduled to work at two schools in Jalandhar; however, the day was declared a holiday by the government, so we had to postpone our meetings.

The team decided to spend the day at the Wonderland amusement park in Jalandhar. It was good to have a break. While the team was amused by the rides and slides, we were also shocked by the social dynamics at the park. For example, there were a few rides where females were not allowed. There was a disco where only men could dance for 30 minutes, and then only women could dance for the next 30 minutes and so on. There was a swimming pool where men were supposed to be on one side and women on the other.

We are grateful that TeamUP members got to learn more about social dynamics and barriers that we will keep in mind while executing our future actions.
